Then Cecily agrees to marry Algernon, but only if his name is Ernest, too, and things become a little difficult for the two young men. 王尔德剧中的人物，大致可分为对照的两类：其间不是道家的正邪之别，而美学的雅俗之分。正人君子、淑女贤媛一类，在道德上当然属于正方，但在风格上却未必是雅人。反之，浪子名士，浪女刁娃一类，在道德上不属正派，但在风格上却未必是俗客。《理想丈夫》里齐氏伉俪，皆属前一类，《不可儿戏》完全超越了道德纠纷，原则上一切角色都不正派，只有配角劳小姐是个小小例外，至于杰克和亚吉能一对浪子，加上关多琳和西西丽一对刁妮，当然都属于后一类。每逢正主在场，多半言语无味，一到反客开口，妙语警句就如天女散花，飘逸不滞，绝无冷场。王尔德的名言大半是由他们说出来的。
